Sustainable Cities and Communities

Advocating for safe, inclusive, and resilient community development.

Goal 5: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

At Hriday Foundation India, we believe that everyone deserves to live in safe, inclusive, and sustainable communities. Guided by SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, we focus on urban and semi-urban development that preserves dignity, culture, and the environment while creating resilient futures.

Our Key Interventions

  • Access to Safe and Affordable Housing: Supporting community housing initiatives to provide secure and dignified homes for underserved families.
  • Inclusive & Sustainable Transport: Advocating for safe sidewalks, cycle tracks, and accessible public transport—especially for women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
  • Participatory Urban Planning: Collaborating with communities to co-design public spaces that reflect their needs and aspirations.
  • Protecting Local Culture & Environment: Preserving cultural heritage, storytelling traditions, and green spaces within rapidly urbanizing areas.
  • Protection of Natural Heritage: Promoting awareness and community-led initiatives to safeguard natural heritage sites, forests, rivers, and biodiversity within growing cities.
  • Green Infrastructure Development: Encouraging eco-friendly infrastructure and people-centered planning that fosters resilience and environmental balance.

Through collaborations, Hriday Foundation India has contributed to initiatives that improve housing, mobility, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability in under-resourced communities.

By engaging communities in urban planning and awareness campaigns, we use SBCC to shape sustainable habits, foster civic responsibility, and build inclusive cities that value both people and nature.
